About Boardvisory
Boardvisory was founded in 2019 by Joy-Marie Lawrence who observed disruptive behaviours often driven by the ego of Directors in the Boardroom. Recognising that these behaviours negatively impacted effective decision-making, she embarked on a journey to discover more efficient ways for Boards to engage. Fuelled by curiosity to explore solutions beyond the conventional the business was established with the aim of fostering a Boardroom environment that prioritised collaboration and strategic decision-making over individual egos.
We partner with board members and C-Suite executives to support continuous learning and ongoing mastery of boardroom responsibilities through our Director-Shift™ framework. With a hands-on, adaptive approach to navigating the ever-evolving landscape, we empower you to elevate your impact and be recognised as an effective leader in the boardroom.
About Joy-Marie Lawrence
Joy-Marie Lawrence has spent more than 20 years in the Boardroom in a variety of Executive and Non-Executive roles. She has chaired Boards in the investment, science and technology, legal, education and healthcare sectors, and coached and mentored Executive Directors, Non-Executive Directors, and leaders from across the private sector, public sector, and civil society.
Joy-Marie’s wide range of legal, governance, and business experience is complemented by an array of academic qualifications. These include an Executive MBA (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business, an LLM degree (Wits University), an LLB degree (University of Cape Town), and a BA degree (University of Cape Town).
Joy-Marie holds a certification as a Chartered Director by the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IoDSA), where she has been a Fellow since 2009, and is featured on their website. Joy-Marie is a faculty member of IoDSA as a Governance Specialist and a faculty member of Duke Corporate Education. She is also a Professional Certified Coach (PCC), accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), the largest global professional coaching body.
